Welcome to the Hill Family Homepage. I sincerely hope that the information contained in this site will be useful to you. I have had a passing interest in my family history for some time, but I have only recently begun the search for my ancestors in earnest. I have found that researching the Hill name is quite a task...there seem to be millions of Hills out there. Although the search seems daunting at times, the rewards are great.
My research shows that my Hill family lived in Amelia County Virginia in the 1700s, then migrated to the northwest region of Madison County Kentucky in the latter part of the 1700s. In about 1828, my Hill family moved to Boone County Kentucky.
Some time in the mid 1880's, John W. Hill moved his family from Grant Co. KY to Effingham Co. IL. I have heard the story of how the family traveled across Indiana in a horse drawn wagon.
My great grandfather, John W. Hill Jr. moved his family from Effingham Co. IL to Washington Co. Arkansas some time between 1900 and 1910, while the rest of his many brothers and sisters either remained in IL or Indiana and KY. The families gradually lost track of each other until I just recently started my family history research.
The Hill Surname DNA Project
has been invaluable to my genealogy research. My hope is that with more and
more Hill researchers participating, we may finally trace our Hill family to
the "Old World".
